“Growing up…I spent a lot of time with my Grandmothers. Both of them left indelible marks on my life and helped to shape me into the person that I am. This project is dedicated to the memories of both of them. Although both have transitioned and taken their rightful title as Ancestors, the memories of them will stay with me forever. Both women served as Ushers in their respective churches and shared a love for music. Coincidentally, they both enjoyed playing the tambourine. They were truly devout women who endured much and overcame most of the obstacles in their way. Their faith and resilience are among the things that I admired most about them. I promised my Grandmother [Allen], before she passed, that I would one day write some songs for her. I was able to uphold that promise by gifting her some of my early poetry. Many years later, I now have some music to share. These songs were written to help pick you up, when you’re feeling down.
