Artist/percussionist Marcus L. Miller hosts Summer Drum Camp - 2022

This year’s camp will focus on various aspects of the drum set including stick & feet techniques, sight-reading challenges, odd meter patterns, rhythms from around the World, standard traditional Western patterns, rudimental drumming, tuning drums, sensory drumming, call & response rhythm challenges, and developing a good practice routine.

The camp is scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m June13-17, and July 11-15, 2022. The sessions are split into will be three (3) 55 minute rotations. There will be a brief break between each rotation. The first and third sessions will concentrate on the drum set. The second session will focus on a different traditional drumming style each day. The styles include West African, Afro-Latin, Brazilian, Orchestral, and Mallets.

Participants do not need a drum set. Drum sets with cymbals and percussion instruments will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring pen and paper and their personal drum sticks (drum sticks will be provided if students do not have their own)

Covid-19 Precaution & Protocols:

The camp will follow the current CA state and local guidelines as established by the CDC. Masks will not be required, but strongly recommended.

In the event that the camp must be held online, participants will need a drum set to participate. Electronic drums are fine as long as they are able to be amplified. Practice pad kits can also work.

Each session will cover a different topic. There will be three (3) Zoom sessions per day for the week long camp. The length of each session is 30 minutes. There will be two (2) 15 minute breaks between the sessions.
